Some of the key strengths of the IKEA foam mattresses include:
- Numerous options available: IKEA has three mattresses with distinct compositions, heights, and pricing. This allows shoppers to compare and contrast to find the mattress that is the best fit for them.
- Great for low budgets: IKEA has very low prices on its mattresses, and its budget options are quite low for a latex mattress or latex hybrid.
- Long sleep trial: the company offers a 365 day trial period during which you can return or exchange your mattress.
Potential drawbacks for the IKEA mattresses include:
- Questionable build components: IKEA does not list the full specifications, including thickness of different mattress layers or the type of latex used to build the mattress. We have some concerns about the quality of these materials and their likelihood to perform well over the long term.
- Shipping costs: the company charges $99 for shipping, even for compressed mattresses, which is in contrast to most of the direct-to-consumer online mattress companies.
We also have a review for the IKEA foam mattresses and IKEA spring mattresses if you’d like to learn more about their other offerings.

About the IKEA Latex Mattresses
IKEA Latex Mattress Specifications
IKEA manufacturers three different latex mattresses. Each has a different composition and set of specifications, as described in the table below. Two have foam layers along with latex, and one is made entirely of latex.
IKEA does not list detailed information about the full specifications of these mattresses. For example, the company does not disclose the type of latex (Talalay or Dunlop) that is used or the thickness of the layers. This makes it challenging to fully evaluate the mattress and also makes it harder to comparison shop.
| Mattress Model | Specifications |
|---|---|
| Matrand | Cover: rayon Top: synthetic latex Bottom: 1.7 PCF support foam |
| Myrbacka | Cover: rayon Top: synthetic latex Bottom: 2.2 PCF support foam |
| Morgongava | Cover: cotton Inside: blend of natural and synthetic latex |

Buying Logistics
Where to Buy
IKEA mattresses are sold via the company’s stores, website, and over the phone.
Sleep Trial / Refunds
IKEA offers a 1 year (365 day) return or exchange policy for its mattresses. During this time, as long as you have your receipt and valid ID, you can either return your mattress for a refund or exchange it for a different mattress.
If you purchased a mattress online, you can return the item to your local IKEA. You can also have IKEA pick up your mattress for a fee. You may also be able to return it via parcel, though this can present logistical challenges.
Delivery
Many IKEA mattresses are available in-store, and you can check availability on the IKEA website. For people who want the mattress delivered, shipping typically costs $99.
The Matrand latex mattress model is delivered compressed inside plastic packaging that is placed inside a box that comes to your doorstep. When you remove the mattress from the packaging, it decompresses. It may take 3-4 days for the mattress to reach its full size.

The Myrbacka and Morgongava models are not compressed and are delivered to you in their full size.
Warranty
IKEA offers a 25-year limited warranty on its mattresses. This warranty covers the interior mattress components but not the mattress cover. If there is a defect in materials or workmanship during the warranty period, IKEA will repair or replace the mattress. You can find full warranty details at ikea.com.
Customer Service
IKEA is a much-beloved store by many for its low-cost products, varied designs, and its food court. But their customer service reputation is not quite as sterling. While generally well-perceived for its customer-orientation, there are reports of some difficult experiences for customers, much like with any huge retailer. The company has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau. In addition, handling of returns or repairs may be an issue for people who do not live near an IKEA.
Mattress Performance
IKEA’s line of latex options are best suited to people who are interested in low-cost, no-frills latex or latex hybrid mattresses. While there are reasons to believe that these will underperform the top latex options on the market, they may be sufficient for many sleepers.
Support
Mattresses with latex comfort layers typically receive high marks for support, and this is a result of latex’s ability to be both resilient (with its characteristic bounce) and supportive (with some give for the body’s pressure points). As firm latex models, these IKEA options have typically been found to be sufficiently supportive for most sleepers.
Durability
The Matrand model includes a layer of low-density foam (under 1.8 PCF), which could be cause for concern when it comes to durability after years of regular use. Typically, though, latex mattresses perform well when it comes to durability.
Firmness
Each latex mattress model from IKEA is available in only one firmness option. These mattresses are best suited to people who find a firmer feel to be more comfortable. You can see a listing of the firmness level of these mattresses in the table below.
| Mattress Model | Firmness Rating |
|---|---|
| Matrand | Medium firm |
| Myrbacka | Medium firm |
| Morgongava | Medium firm |
People who prefer a more plush or softer mattress feel will probably not be comfortable on any of the IKEA latex mattresses.
Motion Transfer
While latex comfort layers do not typically provide as much motion isolation as traditional memory foam, most sleepers do not report motion transfer or sleep disruptions to be a problem with the IKEA latex mattresses.
Offgassing
When brand new, there may be some slight latex or new mattress smell, but this should quickly dissipate. There is no harmful off-gassing associated with these mattresses.
Sleeping Hot
Rarely do customers report issues of sleeping hot on these mattresses. This is largely because both the firmness of the mattress and the resilience of latex help to prevent people from sinking into the mattress in a way that causes excessive heat retention.
Intimacy
Because of its springiness, latex comfort layers are well-regarded for their ability to facilitate sexual activity.
